Section 2. TROUBLE SHOOTING
HOW DO I HARDEN MY WATER?
To generally harden your water across all three areas (PH, KH &
GH), we use a specific fresh water mineral additive product. Using
this product increases all three readings together in a uniform
manner. To increase any specific one of these levels is covered
below.
INCREASE THE PH & KH
When you need to increase the PH it follows that you will need to
increase the KH. Adding Sodium Bicarbonate will increase both the
PH and the KH. The amounts to use will depend on the value of the
PH you start with and how much you want to increase it. Always test
your readings and record your results for future reference.
INCREASE THE GH
To increase the GH use Epsom Salts (Magnesium Sulphate B.P.) The
amounts to use will depend on the value of the GH you start with
and how much you want to increase it. Always test your readings
and record your results for future reference.
GOLDEN RULES AND SOUND ADVISE
1. BEFORE making any changes to any water always heat
it to the temperature of your aquarium as temperature changes
can affect your readings, especially PH.
2. ALWAYS make any changes gradually, a little at a time,
you can always add some more later, but not always remove what you
have just done!
3. ALWAYS record your work for future reference.
4. ALWAYS Make any changes without fish in the tank if possible.
If this is not possible then only makes small changes in any one
go so to not stress the fish.
5. DON'T guess, ALWAYS test and check, DON'T
leave things to chance.
6. NEVER put tap water directly into your aquarium without
first checking it
